Two stakes races again highlight the day’s offerings at Saratoga Racecourse: The De La Rose Stakes and the Shine Again Stakes. Eight additional maiden, allowance, and claiming races round out Friday’s schedule.

I’m going with the 1/1 moneyline favorite in this race—Value Engineering, with Javier Castellano in the irons. This four-year-old colt moneyed all five of his career starts, winning two of them. And Castellano is quite capable of helping him add another win to that record.

Longest odds I’d be willing to take a risk on—even with a show bet—would be the 8/1 Go Poke the Bear, with Tyler Gaffalione aboard. This four-year-old gelding finished in the money seven times in his 14 career starts and won three of them.

You may also want to try a trifecta on the top three favorites in this race: Go Poke the Bear, Legit, and Bundibunan (6-4-5).

I’m going with the third-favored (7/2) entry in this stakes race: Passing Out, with Jose L. Ortiz aboard. This four-year-old filly moneyed in six of her eight of her career starts, winning three of them.

Even in as competitive a race as this one is shaping up to be, I can’t resist the 30/1 odds on Hogans Holiday, with Ricardo Santana Jr. aboard. Here’s a five-year-old mare that has finished in the money in ten of her 20 career starts, winning six of them. Show bet only.

Saratoga Race Track Betting Tips

Even for a stakes race, this match has a surprising amount of talent both in the stirrups and on the track. It seems a toss-up between the top two favorites, Indian Pride and Blamed, ridden by Javier Castellao and Irad Ortiz Jr., respectively. I’m going to go with experience over a slight edge in win percentages and call this race for the second-favored (7/2) Blamed. This five-year-old mare finished in the money for 11 of her 15 career starts and won nine of them.

Lots of long odds to choose from here, and I’m going with a 30/1 longshot—Bella Ciao, with Jose Lezcano aboard. This four-year-old filly moneyed in 11 of her 18 career starts, winning three of them. Show ticket only.
